What to do in Madagascar?
Madagascar, 'the Great Island', is one of the most unique destinations in the world: 90% of its flora and fauna are endemic. Lemurs in the forests, giant baobabs along the Avenue of the Baobabs, multicoloured chameleons and wild beaches at Nosy Be. A world apart.
Avenue of the Baobabs
The Avenue of the Baobabs, between Morondava and Belo Tsiribihina, is Madagascar's iconic image: dozens of millennium-old baobabs (20–30 m tall) lining a red laterite track at sunset.
Highlights : Sunset over the baobabs, Baobabs Amoureux (two intertwined baobabs), Kirindy Forest Reserve (lemurs), Bemaraha Reserve (UNESCO).
Tsingy de Bemaraha
The Tsingy are UNESCO-listed forests of knife-edged limestone. These unique karst formations are explored via via ferrata routes, amid extraordinary biodiversity (lemurs, endemic birds).
Highlights : Grands Tsingy — suspended via ferrata, Lemurs in the forest, Canoe trip on the Manambolo river.
Isalo National Park
Isalo is Madagascar's 'Grand Canyon': a sandstone massif carved by erosion into canyons, natural pools, orange sand formations and forests of flowering pachypodium. Unforgettable hikes.
Highlights : Blue natural pool (swimming), Canyon des Makis (lemurs), Isalo Window (sunset).
Nosy Be
The island of Nosy Be is Madagascar's seaside paradise: white sand beaches, tropical lagoons, humpback whale watching (Jul.–Sep.) and whale sharks. The 'island of perfumes' (ylang-ylang).
Highlights : Hell-Ville & Madirokely beach, Humpback whales (Jul.–Sep.), Whale sharks at Nosy Mitsio, Diving at the Nosy Tanikely islets.
