What to do in Vietnam?

Hanoi
A thousand-year-old capital with its enchanting Hoan Kiem Lake, the 36 streets of the old merchant quarter, temples and pagodas, and the not-to-be-missed egg coffee.

Ha Long Bay

Hoi An
A UNESCO-listed old trading town, its lanes lit up with colourful silk lanterns. Made-to-measure tailors, delicious local cuisine and beaches just 4 km away.

Ho Chi Minh City
Former Saigon, a bustling megacity with the Cu Chi tunnels, the war museum, exceptional street food and a buzzing nightlife.

Sapa & Terraced Rice Fields
Misty mountains along the Chinese border, spectacular terraced rice fields and villages of ethnic minorities (Hmong, Dao).

Phú Quốc
Nicknamed the Pearl Island, Phú Quốc is Vietnam's largest island and one of Southeast Asia's finest beach destinations. Palm-lined white sand beaches, turquoise waters and protected tropical forests cover 70% of the island. Sunsets over Long Beach are among the most beautiful in Vietnam. Don't miss Phú Quốc pepper and artisanal nuoc-mam sauce.

Practical tips for travelling to Vietnam
- Flight from Paris : ~11h with a stopover (Vietnam Airlines, Qatar, Emirates)
- Visa : Visa-free for 45 days for French citizens (since August 2023). Or a 90-day e-Visa online (~$25).
- Currency : Vietnamese dong (₫) — ATM withdrawals recommended, cards not widely accepted
- Language : Vietnamese — English spoken in tourist areas
- Electricity : Type A/C — 220V (adapter recommended)
- Mobile network : Very cheap local SIM (~€2 for 15 days of unlimited data)
- Tap water : Not drinkable — bottled water essential
- Health : Hepatitis A/B and typhoid vaccines recommended, mosquito repellent
